When faced with a board repair, any kind of surfboard ding, you must decide if you’re going to do extra to do a comprehensive job, to do the best job. Are you going to maintain your board’s performance by keeping your board light, and keeping your board strong. Or are you simply going to bog the job. Ideally any repair of consequence should first be filled with Solarez Epoxy Filler, or Solarez Poly Filler. This purpose-made UV resin fills large and deep areas. The benefit of Solarez UV resin is that you can apply in the shade, indoors, out of the sun and the resin will stay manageable. This gives you plenty of time to get your repair layed up, perfect, looking the way you want.
So, you’ll have all the time you need to prepare your board. This may mean pulling out a bashed-in rail. Cutting a piece of foam to fit a hole. Sanding off ragged edges. Roughening up the surrounding area. Cutting a fiberglass patch to fit.
Your repair is coming together, the components are in place. Last to come is the resin.
Once you’ve got your repair filled, application of the Solarez Epoxy Ding Repair Resin will give a layer of super strength. This strength is achieved by the resin incorporating thousands of strands of micro fiberglass. Because the fiberglass is so well incorporated it goes on smooth, easy and fast. UV activated, it dries fast, in a few minutes, in direct sunlight or under a UV light
With Solarez UV resin you fill your repair squeezing resin straight from the tube. You can take your time to smooth it off while still liquid. Apply more to get it perfect. If the fiberglass is sitting too high or has a dip, if the rail isn’t quite filled on the curve, if there’s a bubble next to the fin box, you can get all these rectified. There’s no unpleasant surprises.
With traditional resin repairs, where you need to add a catalyst or hardener to the resin, it’s not like this. You have to mix the resin and hardener. It has to be in certain stringent proportions. You then apply. If something’s not right, that piece of foam moves, or the glass puckers, the amount of time you have to get it right is tiny. Normally what happens is you start to fix one thing and create another problem.
The resin everywhere, the fiberglass moves, bubbles appear. It’s still not right and the resin goes hard. So you have to take time sanding the problem. It’s not fun. Sanding your repair gone wrong. Sanding away mess.

To get your repair looking extra good, as a last step, place a piece of flexible clear plastic to form and shape the resin. This may be flowing around the rail curve, matching the bottom contour, or flat section.
