The best board repair kit for travel repairs is the lightest and smallest. The fastest and easiest to use.
When traveling the last thing you want is to have precious space and chargeable luggage weight taken up with something you might, and hopefully, will not have to use.
The Solarez Polyester Weenie Travel Kit and the Solarez Epoxy Weenie Travel Kit are by far the smallest, lightest and best ways to take a fast fix and repair with you. Both kits include Solarez UV cure resin that sets in the sun. No chemicals or other tubes needed. The resin also incorporates thousands of micro fiberglass fibers. This gives your repair super strength. The kit is tiny and ultra light, coming in a waterproof container keeping everything dry and ready to use. The included dual grade 60 / 120 grit sandpaper gives great repair preparation and finish. Note, the Polyester Weenie Travel Kit can only be used on PU board repairs. The Epoxy Weenie Travel Kit can be used on BOTH PU and Epoxy boards. It’s the go-to UV resin repair if you have both types of boards
However if you do need a repair, having a kit can save you a lot of grief in terms of missed waves and lasting board damage.
In terms of weight, the best board kit for travel is a UV resin kit. Why? UV resin is activated by sunlight, or UV light. It doesn’t need any chemicals or hardeners added to it. This means there’s one less catalyst or hardener bottle or tube to carry around and add weight.
It also means there’s way less hassle.
With UV board repair you just squeeze the resin out of the tube, in the shade. Get your repair right, then expose to sunlight. It’s that quick and easy.
If you have to start mixing up resin and hardener, and you’re rushed, or not setup right, or it’s too hot, or too cold, and don’t get the mix right, you can end up with a disaster. Your repair staying sticky, or cracking, from too much chemical imbalance.
It’s a lot easier, safer, and you get a better result when using UV resin from the tube.
Repairs first to mind when you’re traveling and need a fast fix are fin box repairs. These types of repairs are common with modern fin systems. You don’t need a major impact to loosen a box. Slight bang from reef or rock, pressure from your own power turn, or even a bump on a fin with your foot, can all cause problems.
Left unfixed, next thing you’ll have no box and no fin.

A prompt repair can reseal and strengthen the area. If cracking is major or the box is dislodged, with the right repair kit you can completely reseat your box.
Rail dings are next most worrisome. If you crack your rail anywhere near where your legs slide up and sit up on your board you’re likely to get cut from sharp fiberglass cracked edges. You want to fix this ASAP before you get cut. Even a small cut, in the tropics, has the potential to limit your surfing.
The Solarez Polyester Pro Travel Kit and Epoxy Pro Travel Kit give you ultimate repair capability. You get everything in the Solarez Weenie and Econo Repair Kits, and more. You get additional hardener to be able to do repairs at night, or use on a repair that can’t see daylight. For example the underside of a fin box. Scissors and box openers cut away nasty ding areas. They also cut the included fiberglass cloth and rovings to give extra strong structural repair. Tape, wipes, mixing items, Dual grade 60 / 120 grit sandpaper are all there. If you get a ding or hole on the bottom or deck, in a non-body-contact area it’s much easier to keep surfing. However if your board is EPS it will soak water, a lot of water. As the space between the EPS beads allows fluid to flow in. A hole in polyurethane PU foam isn’t so bad as it is denser with a high insulation property. So even air doesn’t soak in that much. However PU has a tendency to yellow quickly once saltwater enters. So if you keep surfing with your PU ding you’ll likely discolour your board.
The best UV resin kit will include uv filler, to cover a wider area or deeper hole, while being super light. Depending on the extent of the damage, fiberglass cloth gives another layer of extra strength, bonding your repair to the integrity of your board. Depending how far from civilisation and how long, a repair kit with tools, like scissors, tape, mixing utensils, can be invaluable.
