Do you surf near rocks? You know how easy it is to get a ding. Maybe you don’t surf near rocks, yet a collision with another surfer or bang from your own board can as easily cause a ding. Fixing it fast is vital to maintaining your board’s performance and longevity.
Is fixing a repair something you take your time with? Throwing your board in your car, going surfing a few more times, eventually getting around to it? Did you know a fast fix surfboard repair is vital to the performance and longevity of your board. You’ve got to get on it!
All boards soak up water when the integrity of their outer shell, the fiberglass and resin, is damaged. Did you know if you get a ding, it can be a small one, maybe a crack, just crazing in the glass, water will still get in. If your board is PU, made with a polyurethane foam core, water will tend to seep in slowly spreading. If your board has an EPS core it will almost suck water in.
Once the outer fiberglass and resin of your surfboard has lost its integrity with a ding, water will enter. Epoxy foam, shown above, made up of many small foam beads has air spaces that allow water, a lot of water, to quickly enter your board. This can cause irreversible damage
Obviously the bigger and more open your ding is, the more water will enter. Once in it is almost impossible to get out. If it’s a warm day the water will expand into a gas inside your board but have no where to go except farther into your board. When it gets cold it will condense again to liquid.
Ding water will, at the least, discolour your board. If exposed to sun heat, left in your car, the evaporative expansion cycle can cause the fiberglass to lift and bubble. It’s common to see minor dings turn into major repairs, and that board snaps and breaks often occur where there’s been a small ding.
So how to do your fast fix surfboard repair?
You need the right repair resin, repair kit.
Traditional resins are a hassle to use. You need to have on hand and mix up 2 chemicals in exact proportions. The resin is hard to handle, liquid and runny. It takes time to cure, go hard. This time is usually at least ten minutes to an hour.
Solarez has a great easy to use consistency, so you can apply it straight out of the tube. This consistency also includes millions of micro fibreglass fibers that give incredible strength to your repair
In itself traditional resin has no strength. It’s brittle. So depending on your type of ding it might seal, but remain a point of weakness. Overtime traditional resin will shrink, leaving space for water to again enter. Your fix may even fall out leaving your repair a bigger mess than before.
Solarez gives you a fast fix surfboard repair, solving all these problems.
